Apr 24 2008 | By MyFox Philadelphia | A voter watchdog group asked for a court injunction requiring polling places to issue paper ballots. The move came after reports that some electronic voting machines lost power and that people were forced to wait for an hour or more to vote.

VoterAction and 866 MYVOTE 1/Watch the Vote told Fox Philadelphia the groups filed a motion to compel the Board of Elections to provide emergency paper ballots in all polling locations.  Their request cited 8 polling locations where machines went down Tuesday morning and voters were allegedly not given emergency ballots and were not able to vote or forced to wait to vote for hours.

The groups wanted the court to ensure paper ballots be ready for the evening voting rush.

It's all happening under the close eye of the Justice Department, which is monitoring many polling places in the area to ensure compliance with federal voting rights laws.
