With the passage of the Help America Vote Act, Colorado’s Secretary of State, Gigi Dennis, appointed a committee consisting of county elections clerks, state elections officials and legislators. The HAVA Steering Committee, along with the Secretary of State, initiated steps to fulfill necessary requirements of their states voting machine certification and compliance.
Following our 2006 lawsuit against the Secretary of State, Colorado is now following court ordered guidelines to improve the accuracy and efficacy of these testing procedures. Voter Action continues our work in Colorado, working to ensure the implementation and compliance with these new standards.

Conroy v. Dennis
In June 2006, a group of Colorado voters filed a lawsuit in Denver District Court challenging the Colorado Secretary of State’s certification of certain DRE voting systems and seeking a court order to prevent the use of such systems in Colorado elections. More >>
