Watch the Vote: Pennsylvania Presidential Primary 2008
Voter Action conducted a pilot Watch the Vote Program for the Pennsylvania presidential primary on April 22, 2008 in preparation for our overall election monitoring work in the November election.
Watch the Vote's Pennsylvania Primary Watch, in collaboration with Voter Action, the MyVote1 hotline, the NAACP’s National Voter Fund, Voterstory.org, and The Tom Joyner Show, engaged in election monitoring and outreach in key jurisdictions. Partnerships with on-the-ground citizen networks provided reporters and election monitors who assisted in verifying election problems as they emerged via the hotline and helped us address problems on Election Day and beyond. Program Description:
|
The Watch the Vote Project’s Pennsylvania Primary Watch is in collaboration with Voter Action, the MyVote1 hotline (866-MyVote1) the NAACP’s National Voter Fund, Voterstory.org, and The Tom Joyner Show. The project partners with on-the-ground citizen networks, providing reporters and election monitors who will assist in verifying election problems as they emerge via the hotline and help us address problems on Election Day and beyond. Voter Action has provided training, online resources and reporting tools to citizen-reporters, election monitors, and poll watchers. Through the 1-866-MyVote1 hotline, Voter Action will monitor call reports as they come in from polling locations from within certain counties. This information will be provided to the county-specific, partner reporters to verify and investigate. In addition, when problems are resolved at a given polling location, this information will be communicated through the media channels partnered with the project. Citizen reporters and poll watchers will file observations and reports from the day into an online database that will catalog and identify potential issues that may warrant further investigation. This information will be an invaluable tool for ongoing efforts to improve and protect the elections process in November 2008. Data collected from the Watch the Vote Pennsylvania Primary project will also be analyzed as part of a report that will include the thousands of calls generated so far from this year’s primary season.
